Gathering Nesting Material...........
Bev and I shot over to Brokenhurst first thing this morning after a tip off from a guy i work with.
Tony has a stationary caravan on a site which is close to Brokenhurst, he and his wife use the caravan most weekends arriving Friday afternoon, and leaving Monday morning before they're both due to start work. Their weekends are filled with long walks on the heaths and amongst the various woods within the New Forest. During a conversation i had with him on Wednesday afternoon, he was telling me they regularly come across deer on their walks.
Armed with a short list of most likey locations, we were in the woods at Burley Road before eight this morning. After an hour or so of walking on tip toes, we came to a clearing where a "Herd " well around thirty deer were having a social get together. On the edge of the herd was this "Albino" deer who was having his hair removed in serious amounts by this crafty pair of Jackdaws.
They must have returned five or six times to the same deer before the herd left and headed to a copse in the distance.
Bev and i, happy with our early morning encounter, headed into Brokenhurst for a well deserved cuppa............
Jackdaws.
