"Changing Places" sculpture, Bolsover
The former mining areas in the Doe Lea valley near Carr Vale were the subject of a millennium project. Two adjoining reserves were created - "Carr Vale Flash" and the "Peter Fidler" reserves. The latter is named after a pioneer member of the Canadian Hudson Bay Company, born in Bolsover.
The sculpture marks the scale of the changes in the local scene since the closure of the mines. There were several other schemes across the country under the same umbrella of Changing Places.
