Easter Sunday trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The new Joan Miro pieces have come from Barcelona, Majorca and Paris to a huge exhibition in Bretton Park, Wakefield. This isn't one of them!
Unlike some recent exhibitions there is a much greater 'keep-off' factor to this one. Black ropes and little signs abound. People climbed all over Jeaume Plensa's magnificent objects. Maybe that's why? We can't be trusted to get close without touching? I suppose some of the pieces are very tactile.
However, down by the lake there is a set of steps or a podium, built of blocks. It aches to be climbed. It is impossible to see how it could be injured by human touch. However there are signs and wardens preventing human interaction with the piece. Once again, today, we saw a man told off for standing on the top of it.
