Brew Day
We were looking for something to do today, what with the weather being a bit yuk here, so we headed off to Milton Keynes to the Snowdome to do a bit of sledging.
A quiet afternoon this afternoon, and the window of opportunity was there to brew, so I seized the moment.
In fact, as I write it is a work in progress (mashing).
California Common Ale (ish) in style should end up a mid to light brown colour. Not too bitter (trying to reign in my use of bitterness) but hopefully quite a interesting hop aroma. About 5.3% ABV in strength.
Quite a lot of Munich malt, giving it a malty bready taste. A bit of wheat malt to add body and head to the beer, some crystal for a sweeter almost butterscotch taste (hopefully minimal) and some roasted barley to add to the colour and add a little bit of sharpness to the malt profile.
Hops will be Nugget and Cascade for bittering, to give it an American twang, with the Cascade following on for the aroma hops, along with some East Kent Goldings I have, so it should have an American slant with the Cascade, almost grapefruity type aroma, but still quite floral and 'traditional' with the Golding hops.
Sorry if I have bored you with that! For being a brown fizzy liquid sometimes quite a bit goes into dreaming up the recipes.
