Río Celeste's water is not clear but it has a very intense turquoise colour.
The legend tells that the river received that colour from God when he was cleaning his paintbrushes after painting the sky.
According to scientific explanation, its colour came from the unique chemical reaction of volcanic minerals (emanation of sulfur from the volcano and precipitation of calcium carbonate).
