Pool The Other One
A new day dawned for us in Singapore when Mrs B pressed the button to automatically open the ceiling to floor curtains in our hotel room to reveal a wonderful cityscape. This was a new city for us and one that had to be explored!
I have to confess we pushed the boat out a bit when we booked this hotel, but decided as this was a special holiday, for a host of reasons, we should go for it. Unable to sleep much after our evening flight from Sydney, we got up (after opening those curtains) and headed for the rooftop swimming pool, which was shear bliss. We had it to ourselves and have to admit the infinity edge was a bit unnerving, even although it was only on the seventh floor.
After a hearty breakfast (it was included in the deal so we ate a lot!) we did what we always seem to do first in a new city and headed for the highest observation point, which was the skypark on the 56th floor of the nearby Marina Bay Sands Hotel. However, as our tour didn't start until 2 o'clock we first took in the nearby Art and Science Museum where there were a couple of exhibitions. The first was of Andy Warhol's work, which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. The second was a Titanic Exhibition, which was really great and particularly poignant as we approach the 100th anniversary of the disaster.
At 2 o'clock we were up in the Skypark, which has to be one of the craziest buildings I have ever seen. The Marina Bay Sands Hotel has 3 towers lined up in a row and on top of them they have built a ship shaped structure to create a leisure park, complete with swimming pool and trees. Its really weird seeing trees growing out of a roof this high up. Anyway, today's blip is of that crazy pool and some swimmers who clearly don't suffer from vertigo. I have added a shot here to give some idea of how high up the Skypark is.
After lunch we headed to Raffles hotel where we had the mandatory Singapore slings, while eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor (apparently, that's also mandatory!). It was OK but a bit overrated and pricey!
Heading home tomorrow, so the party is definitely over!
