Dam!
The guidebook talked of the twinkling waters of the Angram and Scar House reservoirs, well there wasn't much twinkling , just mist and drizzle rolling in on a fierce wind! However the 20 mile walk from Ramsgill to Lofthouse and on to the quite stupendous constructions that are the reservoirs that supply the Bradford area were well worth the effort. You have to be at the bottom of the dam where we were slightly illicitly, ahem, to really appreciate the scale and beauty of it. This is Scar House, completed in 1936 using over one million tons of stone. At the time, it was the largest masonary dam in Europe.
Apparently Nidderdale wasn't included in the National Park because of these beasts, but the landscape around is just as beautiful.
