Crook Inn

Today's the day ................................... to Save the Crook

This is the historic Crook Inn near the village of Tweedsmuir on the A701 road between Broughton and Moffat in the Scottish Borders. It claims to be one of the oldest inns in Scotland - and it was here that Robert Burns wrote his poem entitled Willie Wastle's Wife. The hotel was refurbished in 1936 in the then-current Art Deco style, and it retains many of the features installed at that time.

In 2006, the 400 year-old inn was closed and since then it has been the subject of a lengthy campaign by the community to secure ownership in order to reinvigorate it as a viable and enduring part of the Upper Tweeddale community. On 16th March 2012, they successfully secured a binding contract that will enable them to buy, renovate and operate the Inn - but they must raise the agreed asking price of £160,000 by the end of the year.

They will shortly be launching a major fundraising campaign under the 'Save the Crook' banner to start the process. If you are interested in getting involved you can find more details here...................
