Wisteria at a Butcher in Provence

Today the wind struck again (gusts at least to 50 km/pm) after a relatively calm Easter Monday), with clouds and bits of rain--they seemed almost to mock the drought. We made an outing to the Caume--a high area in the Alpilles (the nearby mountain chain) but the wind followed us.

We descended to the small town of Saint Remy de Provence--much sought after by tourists; all at once we heard English everywhere, in great contrast to our smaller town of St. Martin de Crau (we're outside but drive in every day to shop for our baguette and other food).

We passed this butcher's shop on the way into Saint Remy--a typically Provencal building, with wonderful wisteria. We've clearly arrived at the height of the wisteria season, and this was one of the very best we'd seen. Viewed large, you see that the shop offers charcuterie maison--their own sausage and cold cuts.
