Between fen and mountains

Les Orgues

I have been meaning to visit these unusual formations for some years. Today I got round to it. The erosion of the clay and sand has created this bizarre landscape over many thousands of years. The columns or 'organ pipes' are 10 to 12 metres high and they are worn to this shape by rain and wind. It is not a place to visit in summer as the heat can be unbearable and at times of torrential rain the site has to be evacuated. I have posted more examples of the 'orgues' here.
