Holycross Abbey

Murphy, Rev, Denis / Triumphalia Chronologica Monasterii Sanctae Crucis in Hibernia = The glorious history of the monastery of Holy Cross in Ireland.

The Abbey of Holy Cross was founded by Donal Mór O'Brien in the twelfth century. It is situated on the west bank of the river Suir about three miles from Thurles and took its name from the portion of the True Cross that was kept there. This history is taken from an original manuscript written by Malachy Harty, a monk in the monastery in 1640.
