Old-fangled non-green technology

But OK by me. Mrs P in search of something for her mum went into an ironmongers in Beauly (yes Beauly is one of those pre-historic towns that has a proper ironmongers but no B&Q, Homebase whatever) and just on the off-chance asked about "proper" bulbs, where "proper" = "incandescent". Yes indeed, lots of them. As "proper" 100 watt bayonet caps are now discouraged (because our government and Brussels want the climate to be colder and wetter, and are taxing us heavily to that end) they have to be called "rough service lamps". In theory intended for things like an inspection lamp in a garage which might be be subject to rough handling or knocks. But in spite of the name you don't have to wear a yellow jacket to buy one or use one. You just need to know what to ask for. And don't try anywhere (such as Tesco) which prides itself on greenosity. The pack has a number of safety tips the last of which says "for industrial use only". So that excludes halls, dining rooms, lounges, bedrooms, bathrooms, studies. Any day now I can expect the knock on the door from the greenosity policemen.
