inspired by the magestic oak
I am enjoying being re-united with the English oak. In NE Scotland, oak trees spent so much energy struggling with the climate that they seldom managed to produce acorns. I see this well-formed mature specimen on our daily walk. It is just beginning to come into leaf.
Nearly sixty years ago, my Mother saved an oak tree at our home in Mid-Sussex. She was putting out the washing when, looking down towards the end of the garden, she saw two workmen beginning to cut down a mature oak which formed part of our boundary. She made them down tools while the situation was resolved. Last time I went down the lane, it was still there. Well done, Mum!
