Here there be Dragons

We all took the ferry to Stradbroke Island today, with Matt's two kayaks on the car. This island which protects Moreton Bay from the Pacific Ocean is the largest sand island in the world. It is well forested and has freshwater lakes. We were heading for Brown Lake, so called because the organic matter in the water stains it a rich brown. Dragonflies were found in abundance here and on a short bush walk I also saw a whip snake and several Goanna's (large monitor lizards) which scavenge in the picnic spots around the lake. I did get shots of the goannas but these dragons didn't seem quite so impressive as the other kind of dragon that I show here.
