Settle Station
This morning I had an early start taking Benji and 4 girls to Settle to start their Duke of Edinburgh weekend yomp. Now I can't decide whether I'm impressed, worried about him or for him, that he's managed to arrange the company of four 15/16 year olds for the next 56 hours, (though I know he'll need a long bath and the peace and quiet of his own company when he comes home).
Anyway being in Settle earlier than I'd usually want to be, was an opertunity to blip the station. The Settle Carlisle Railway is a treasure of the British Railways, it survived Beechings and subsequent attempts to close it because of fiesty and persistent campaigning and now has something of a resurgence as a freight route as well as a passenger route with congestion elsewhere (shame we didn't save more of the network). It passes through some stunning Penine countryside my blips last month Ribblehead with Whernside and Triptych give you offcummed 'uns some idea.
The station itself is worth a visit, for the views from the bridge here towards the peaks of the Dales, the prettiness of the whole station and the trip back in time for some of the older generation with fittings, signs and regalia of a time passed.
Happy Friday Blippers have a good weekend.
