High Street
I think most towns have a High Street, this is a view of the middle of Rangiora's High Street. Last weeks Junction Hotel and Pulleys Building is further down the street behind those Autumn trees, in the distance.
The shipping containers in front of the Lambert Building have allowed the road to re-open to one way traffic, a good move as the shops between the Junction Hotel and the Lamberts Building were open but sadly no-one was keen to walk along the fence line and businesses suffered due to the fall-off of customers. To ensure safety of passing pedestrains and vehicles three 12 metre (40 feet) and three 6 metre (20 feet) containers have been used. The bottom containers have been filled with 50 tonnes of concrete blocks to hold the barrier in place and all containers have been locked together for added stability. It now means the facade of the Lambert Building can now be safely demolished without re-closing the road.
The latest business to close is the stationery and book store, Paper Plus, in the two storey white and navy building. This building once housed a wallpaper depot and dressmaker by the name of Miss Geddis.
There are now a total of 12 businesses which have had to close or re-locate. The local council is giving up their front lawn for the building of some re-located shops, behind me and further down the road will see many changes. I should say this is all earthquake related.
Theres something about this image which just draws me. Another beautiful autumn day with blue sky and plenty of sun shining through the trees, which in turn have turned what could've been an ugly image into something a bit nicer to view.
Its been curtain day in our house today. We've got Daughter E some blockout curtains as shes been unable to sleep in the early hours of the evening. With 4am starts for work she is needing to be getting to sleep at a reasonable time. Hubby and I have been measuring, putting tracks up and I've been hemming as some of them were far too long. I had to dash out to get more hooks and took the time to quickly get this shot.
Better fly now as I've tea to prepare, washing to fold and a few other jobs - hope your've all had a great day :)
Daughter A is home tomorrow - have a great flight hun, see you soon!! :))
