"In recognition of his sterling worth"
Lynchgate, St. Mary's church, Halswell. I played around with it in B+W which made it very somber and gloomy but as it was a lovely sunny day, that seemed a sin so I left it as it was.
"In Memoriam. This gate was erected by the friends of the late Chas. Pitt Beadel, manager of the Cashmere Estate and member of the Halswell Rd. Bd, in recognition of his sterling worth."
I am not sure what he did but he was obviously well thought of. A small cemetery with a lot of old graves from the 20s and 30s that are badly damaged, presumably from the recent quakes. Lots of broken and fallen headstones and cracked pads. A number of more recent graves including a victim of the Feb quake. Dave and I wandered quietly and thought quiet thoughts.
Blip's map has the word "gate" in what looks like the exact spot. PS According to this link, the gate has been moved from its original location. It was built in 1891.
