Feels like home
This magnolia branch is from the garden of the house I grew up in in Sydney. It was a tall and narrow tree down one side of the house that I rarely went down. But it was one of the first signs of spring with it's large white and wine coloured goblets that covered it's branches, and in winter, it's angular branches were always of interest against the sky.
When Mum sold the house after living there for over 45 years, I cut this branch and have had it ever since. It is different to having furniture from that time or photos, for it is a piece of that home that couldn't have come from anywhere else. It was a happy and loving home to grow up in and is now a reminder of how fortunate I have been. It sits on the kitchen counter next to the stove.
