Turning Point

Horsing Around

After the unbearable heat earlier in the week, Susanne's last two days in Cape Town have been hampered by disappointing weather. A tour of the winelands is not at it's best when the mountain ranges are cloaked in cloud, and the same goes for Cape Point. We decided to abandon our plans and see where the wind took us - which happened to be on our local wine route in Constantia.

At first it was discouraging to find Klein Constantia and Buitenverwachting (where I blipped) closed, however, Constantia Uitsig and Steenberg were open and satisfied the need to go elsewhere. I must add that we found the latter to have, by far, the better service.

As we were finishing our wine tasting, Russell suggested that Susanne might like to try surfing. She agreed, which meant sacrificing her last opportunity to visit Cape Point. It was the right decision judging by the fun that was had.

Our friend Lorien joined us later for something to eat. We drove into town expecting to find some inspiration on Long Street. On the way a larger than life puppet, dancing on the doorstep of Gold, attracted our attention and we were drawn into the African restaurant. Big mistake! I can't fault our waitress but the food was very mediocre, as was the entertainment. Luckily, we didn't need to rely on this to have what was a very enjoyable evening. We especially appreciated Russ's new napkin folding creation - a pampers nappy!

It was fantastic to see Lorien (she's so lovely), who revealed a reason not to jump out and surprise her in the dark.....

Please note that if you're looking for a more authentic dining experience, you should head for a meat feast at Mzoli's Place in The township of Gugulethu.
