Old and new(ish)
Casco Viejo, the old quarter of Panama City was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
Walking around the narrow streets amid the sea of locals, tourists, and impatient taxi drivers, I couldn't help but be reminded of Havana. It too is undergoing massive reconstruction of the old colonial buildings, but on a far bigger scale.
In Panama, the government seems to have decided to move things along as quickly as possible by expropriating properties and giving buyers a two year time limit in which to start the renovations. The exterior must be renovated to maintain original colonial features.
Inside? Perhaps anything goes
What I do know is that the renovations are stunning once completed, here's one example
Ah well. Until tomorrow
