Houses of Wilmington #16

Wilkenson Belden House (1810)

I usually select the house for the week by accessibility to the view and the light. As spring progresses, it gets more difficult to see the houses through the trees. This house from 1810 was remodeled in 1885 and 1900. Although it appears to be a one-story frame, it is actually two stories with the second story being part of the right rear oldest section.

Not much information readily available about the Belden family. The Wilkensons however, were prominent in Syracuse, New York, and were instrumental in naming the original village. Mr. Wilkenson had invented the air-cooled engine and it was reported that he received a visit from Henry Ford prior to his development of his automobile.

Happy Birthday brother Bud, and as it happens it is also the birthday of Henry Mancini.
I like the night street shots in this video.
