Blue and White

Today we had a decorator in the studio demoing the traditional blue and white technique that this town is known for. She incorporates the traditional method of using cobalt to create more contemporary pots. She doesn't recreate the ancient pots, but she may reference them or their symbols. As with traditional Chinese ceramics, her only task is to decorate. Someone else creates and trims her pots before she decorates them. We were encouraged to try the method, and I'll just say that it's not one that can be learned overnight.
This is a picture of her working on her demo piece. What looks like black now will turn to various shades of blue when it is fired to cone 10.
