Glasgow Necropolis

Thank you everyone for your much appreciated comments and stars on the wee starling , really made my day .

Today I was in Glasgow and had a few hours to spare before heading back on the bus to Argyll ( that bus pass is a wonderful card ! ) Having left my 7D for a minor repair I headed off to the Necropolis with my treasured Canon 400D . I was determined to see what the wee camera and the original kit lens could produce. I hadn't bargained for me forgetting how to use the settings on my old camera which is rather ironic given that I thought I would never be able to get used to the 7D buttons and dials.

However my old brain did manage to function and I had a wonderful time revisiting my favourite " haunt " in Glasgow.

This old cemetry is a fascinating place, full of wonderful architecture and fine sculptures as well as an insight into Victorian Glasgow Apparently the cemetry was Glasgow's version of the world famous Pere Lachaise Cemetry in Paris

My blip tonight shows some of the monuments at the highest point in the Necropolis. On the far right is the monument erected in the memory of John Knox " the chief instrument under God of the Reformation in Scotland - 22nd September 1825 " as carved on the monument. The really ironic part of this is that his statue faces West overlooking Glasgow Cathedral , one of the few early churches not destroyed by the Reformation in which he took a leading part.
