New year - New growth
A small peek at the pond at the end of the road. The rushes are growing quickly. They will no doubt soon be 6 feet high again with their flowers and later their characteristic bullrush tops. At the end of the year they will turn into lovely fluffy heads before all dying back. Their fate can be seen here too. Last years growth can still be seen strewn in the water behind.
In early Feb the water was boiling with frogs spawning. In a few more weeks, all the tadpoles will be swarming.
The water level is still low. As soon as it warms, the mud will start to smell - won't be very long before I have to stop the dog going into the water - A rancid smelly dog is no fun. Being hosed down with cold water doesn't put her off. Likely to be a bucket and jug to do that this year.
