Fire Fire Fire

This afternoon we had a wild fire in the wooded area across the street from our home. Fortunately for us the wind was blowing out of the SW and it spread away from us. The wind was blowing about 30-35 knots which really made the fire spread very quickly and ended up jumping across a 4 lane road and toward the Art Museum and some houses that had to be evacuated. There were helicopters and fixed wing aircraft dropping loads of water and fire retardant. I think every fire engine in Wilmington and the North Carolina Forest Service was fighting this one. Bulldozers were cutting fire lines by pushing down trees.

It has been so dry here and we haven't had any rain in many weeks so everything is extremely dry. They estimated that 60 acres burned.
