Cross Atlantic Antics...

I want to hear both sides...

Mount Olive is in the bible belt of the states. I'm not religious in the slightest, but I've got a great respect for those that do have it, and although I do regularly appear to feel otherwise, I wish I could have faith in something that whimsical if a little nonsensical in my eyes.

I have to be careful with some comments over here, because people will get offended when the big man upstairs gets his name taken in vain. I accidentally shouted Goddamnit at the bible night basketball game and subsequently became the most hated man in the gym for the night. I did manage to offend a good bunch of my friends the other day though, but with what I view as completely sound logic and reasoning.
One of my friends here is very much a "I'm right, you're wrong, so you're going to hell" Christian, and I do enjoy winding him up every now and then with mild sprinkling of cynicism over his steadfast and sure beliefs in the big man upstairs. This time, I did genuinely believe I had a fair case...

Someone had brought up going to hell for a certain sin, for what is irrelevant but I I retorted by saying that it might not actually be so bad in Hell...Might even be a good laugh.

The logic I brought to the table was this...

The devil, Satan, Beelzebub, The Angel of the Bottomless Pit...several names for the good old horned cheeky chappy we all know and hate. The key word for me in there is "angel". Satan was an angel...kicked out of heaven for going against what he believed to be wrong. He viewed God as a narcissistic, power hungry dictator that was only putting on a show of really caring for everyone. Which is a fairly valid argument! Why would a God that loved everyone so much and only cared for them, demand credit for everything and spend half the day singing to him? Little head strong and a little vain maybe? ( Christians, don't shout at me, just trying to show a point)

But he was kicked out with some of his mates, and so naturally, as we see happening all through history, he retaliates. Obviously everyone knows about Adam and Eve so I don't need to explain that. So if he runs things down in hell, why would he punish everyone for doing what he was trying to do in the first place?
Stolen something? He welcomes you!
Committed adultery? You're his boy!
God rewards you for doing his bidding and keeping to the commandments, so why doesn't Satan do the same?
Read Paradise Lost and see who you think is the real baddy in it.

Again guys, not trying to offend, so please don't be and honestly if you do, I'm not bothered, it's my opinion! Not even an opinion, just a logical argument for something that may or may not even exist.

Cos really...it might just all be a good story that we were meant to take some meaning from. World might have been a much friendlier and safe place to live if we all seen it like that...
