They're back!

Actually they've been back for a few weeks, but this was the first time I'd walked under the Tyne Bridge (with my hood up) and got that first faint whiff of ammonia. Ah, the scents of spring! To my ears their call is less 'kittiwake' and more 'kittyWAAYK'. I see that the Guildhall has been covered with netting to keep them off, so there'll be even more competition for nest sites on and under the bridge.

I must have scurried past its door hundreds of times on my way to the station always thinking "I must pop in there some time...." and this afternoon I finally managed to spend almost an hour browsing around that great Newcastle establishment, the Lit & Phil. Splendid.
