work and then acupuncture at napiers... I headed home in a blissful state anticipating a lovely nights kip... settled down, got all cosy and drifted off peacefully into lovely dreamless slumber, to be rudely awoken by the smoke detector, bleeping to say it had a low battery...

3 in the morning standing on a chair changing batteries, only to find that not just one, but both of my spares which were brand new, were duds and wouldn't work... the smoke detector emitted a piercing high pitched beep every minute for the rest of the night... no more sleep... after another four hours of the noise, I was deranged by the time I left the house for another day of work...
