Sheila's New Mac
The equivalent of the Earth putting it's hand on a wounded knee, the Dayton Daily News donated this laptop to Sheila.
A little background: Sheila is a shining-star graduate of SAEP's Gap Year Programme, after which she was accepted to the University of Cape Town, one of Africa's premier universities. Sheila is an outstanding student currently in her second year majoring in Anthropology and Film and Media Studies. She has accomplished this in spite of being an orphan, and in spite of being born in one the most violent and impoverished townships in the area. And further -
in spite of not having a laptop. Hence, the DDN donation... <3
A little more background: SAEP's Gap Year Program selects a promising group of 10-12 recent township high school matriculants in order to help them overcome the barriers to tertiary education and post-high school employment that youth from these communities face. The programme provides intensive personal and educational development to these learners full-time for their post-matric year, including providing them with community service opportunities, mentorship, and rigorous tutoring.
