Bosun
The most important man on deck for every captain is the bosun. Bosun is short for boatswain. A good bosun is his weight worth in gold. He is the focal point for every captain and mate. He knows his ship with all her equipment on board, he knows all types of ropes, steel wires, splices, paint, and most important; his leadership on deck can never be questioned. Our bosun is Nuyap, the man you see on this picture. Nuayp is Malaysian and came on board the Retriever as bosun in 1986, making trips of one year. Now his terms are lasting three months. I came on board this ship as mate in 1985, making trips of six weeks. My terms now are five weeks. We know each other pretty well by now. When I look at him on this picture there is only conclusion: seize doesn't matter. Tonight we will bring in the anchors of the Hermod for the last time this season and depart for Rotterdam tomorrow. ETA Maascenter will be hopefully friday daybreak. Ending an intensive North Sea tour.
