The Naismith Bridge.
The Naismith bridge crosses the River Almond near East Calder in West Lothian. It had fallen into disrepair until it was restored by the Millenium Fund. Almonddell is a beautiful country park with paths either side of the river. I have seen Heron, Woodpeckers, Dippers and Kingfishers here and once , from the bridge, an otter swimming upstream.
Sadly when walking there today many of the ancient trees have succumed to the last big gales we had a few weeks ago and now lie torn and damaged. However there were many little spring flowers blooming and birds singing and the sun was warm when I sat for a while watching the waters tumble down over the rocks on its way to Cramond and the sea.
