Where did the rainbow go?

As I was driving down the bypass there was a great rainbow coming out of the ground in a patch of sun surrounded by grey rubbish, but I missed the first laybay so carried on and saw the rainbow disappear in a few seconds and by the time I got to the next layby 100m down the road it had pretty much disappeared :-(
