Worm Casts
Beautiful day at the beach, on the way we saw roe deer and a barn owl. The sand was covered in worm casts which the oyster catchers seemed to be enjoying. Couldn't get a shot of the oyster catchers so got one of the casts instead.
All the casts are accompanied by wee holes down which one will find a lugworm. These wee beasties head lies at the hole and tail lies below the cast (maybe the otherway round) and they pump water through they're U shaped burrows and filter out the sediments for food. They catch the sediment in a mucusy pouch and then they swallow the pouch. Pretty nifty buggers.
Anywho time to watch shawshank redemption for the first time avec Hugh..
