Primrose Day
For all you seekers of useless trivia today is Primrose Day. Why you may ask? Is it because most Primrose species are at the height of their blooming? Is it because there is a national campaign to highlight the demise of suitable primrose habitats? Is it because every wildflower should have it's day and this is a trial to measure the support? No, is the answer to all these. Primrose Day relates to the cermemoratiom of the death on this day in 1881 of that Great British statesment Benjamim Disraeli. Why Primrose day? Because Queen Vic (bless her) sent a wreath of Primroses to his funeral with a note referring to the fact they were his favourite flowers. Truth was she was referring to her late husband's favourite flower being the Primrose.
Anyway I shall go to bed tonight rejoicing in the fact that I have let the world of blip know this fascinating fact and next time you see a Primrose or Cowslip or oxlip or Birdseye Primrose you can condifently say did you know......
