Canadian Red Wood?

Took several shots of cherry blossom on trees on teh way home but none looked good - either too bland or just looked rubbish so I went for a wander round the housing estate looking for something to blip. Several things presented themselves but I was most interested in this pile of wood - why is it red??

Why is it SO red - I have heard of redwood tress but I don't think the red is THAT red???

Just wondering - aimlessly as usual
