Moment's Wonder

St. Louis Park Firefighter

Someone smelled eggs and our entire building was evacuated this afternoon.

I was in the middle of a session with someone who had waited a number of weeks to get into my schedule when the announcement to evacuate came over the intercom. Third drill in 3 weeks. Earlier this week, I sat in the inner- hallway with a group of care managers for the tornado drill, last week it was outside for a fire drill. Not to mention false alarms. So, we looked at each other and settled back in.

Second announcement - this is not a drill, bring your coats and purses...

I've been working with this young woman for over two years and she is entirely recovered from her ED and the mother of a darling 6 month old. The session was a check-in and neither of us really wanted to end it suddenly, so we took ourselves out to the garden while we waited for the fire department to come and figure out if it was a gas leak.

Turned out it was just a funny smell and we were back in the office within the half hour to finish the session.

My next patient was one of our inpatient's who is too ill to be treated without medical monitoring. She wondered where they (inpatient and residential patients) all would have gone if it had been a major gas leak.

Good question. I'm thinking if there isn't already a plan, there are some folks coming up with one right now.

A little excitement in a otherwise predictable and unassuming day.

This is my first stranger blip. As a walked back into the building, I stopped and asked this firefighter if I could take his picture. He was completely taken aback. When I explained my daily blip journal and that I wanted him to represent this day, I got this smile.

Beautiful!
