'All overgrown by cunning moss'
A scatter of velvet cushions appears to litter the woodland floor of Coed Ty Canol as if in the wake of a slumber party. But these are not soft furnishings: the moss simply forms a slipcover for tumbled stones and outcrops of rock.
I have blipped this ancient woodland before, and will again. It's one of the jewels in the environmental crown of West Wales, home to over 400 species of lichen as well as mosses, liverworts and ferns, dormice and polecats and numerous birds. Any day now, a shimmer of bluebells will transform the appearance of the greenwood but today only a few of the flowers were bloom.
