Winged Stag

Built in 1537 for James V, restored in 2005, the King's Fountain at Linlithgow Palace is thought to be the oldest surviving fountain in Britain.

There are a mix of heraldic carvings, motifs from the tale of the little mermaid and one said to depict King James V dressed as the peasant. Supposedly, it flowed with wine on the occasion of his wedding to Mary of Guise.

Expect it's just heraldry, but could this winged stag be a Peryton, a magical creature that combined the attributes of a stag and a bird thought to be from the lost continent of Atlantis. Either way, this will be my entry for the WBC this week for the theme of 'Stone'.
