The Birthday Boy!

Hurrah, it was Dexter's official second birthday today! Phew, what a build up! Thanks for your patience with bday blips blip chums. However, I just had to post another photo of him today blowing out some candles which he's become really good at. We had his proper birthday cake at the weekend but I couldn't let the day pass without some kind of cake (mainly because I'm very greedy and love cake).

So my darling little boy is a fully fledged toddler and certainly has the tantrums of a two year old! A week ago I had to remove him from the trolley in a large supermarket and lay him on the floor so that he could kick and scream without doing himself any harm. And all because I wouldn't let him open the bottle of some shower gel.

But you know what? I'd be more concerned if he didn't have tantrums as it must be incredibly frustrating for him not being able to talk. He still doesn't say much compared to my daughter when she was the same age, but to be fair he does have two languages going on. He seems to have more french vocab than english and lately he's been saying 'ne pas' when he doesn't want something. It took us ages to work out what he wanted when he was saying what sounded like 'loo, loo', when what he was saying was l'eau, l'eau (water). He loves pointing to us and saying 'Mammy' or 'Daddy' or 'eea' (which is for Olivia). In english he says 'allo', 'ank oo' and 'bye bye', but his favourite word of all is 'CAR'. It's a nightmare whenever we go in a car park as he just repeats the word 'car' over and over and over again!

He's developing a great sense of humour and lately he loves to pretend to be asleep in his cot by doing some comedy snoring routine with his eyes closed but a great big smile on his face. He's also got some crazy kind of break dancing routine going on, which he must have learnt from the other children at the creche. It has us in stitches when we watch him and he doesn't even need music to perform the routine!

He's also an incredibly affectionate little boy and adores his big sister, who is great with him (most of the time!).

It seems ridiculous now, but when I was pregnant with him I worried that I wouldn't possibly be able to love him as much as I did my daughter. However my heart just seemed to make room and now, sometimes, I think it could burst with the love I feel for them both.

Happy Birthday Dexter. I love you more than I ever dared possible, x
