Easy going
What a fantastic couple of days (even with yesterday's spider bite).
Despite taking longer than it should have to reach the hut yesterday, 2 of us made it further on up onto Walker Pass. It's been many years since I was there and it felt an incredible privilege.
My companion and I had limited time before the light failed and the temperature dropped. We moved as quickly as we could, me with a pack to carry gear we needed to stay safe.
There is something magical to climb up and look across a pass where you know at the highest point you'll pass from the east coast of the South Island to the west coast. You know that point is reached once the streams start flowing the opposite direction.
The peaks and rocks around show the forces and pressures of 2 opposing techtonic plates grinding against each other. Awesome in the truest sense of the word.
Today has been a pleasant wander out. Just a little bit of effort, not too long and home in time to sort out gear, do washing and appreciate a hot shower.
What an excellent week I've had :-)
