The Catholic Church
If you look at the blip from yesterday and up the street on the left you see the top of a tall building which is the same as the building to the left on this blip.
It's a hospital called Landakot or St. Joseph' hospital and was built in two parts, first part in 1935 and second part in 1962. This had to be done this way because a small wooden house hospital - which the nuns and Jón Sveinsson, NONNI, had manage to build for donations from Europe 1902 - was in front of it and then removed.
The church is by Guðjón Samúelsson, the same architect that designed Hallgrímskirkja. It's is the first known Gothic church to be built out of concrete in 1929. It was supposed to have a 15m high steeple, but the last I heard was that it was to dangerous for the airplanes - this was in 1956.
The builders made cast for the pillars and made to many so for a long time on was on a hill outside Reykjavik as a beacon (without a light) for those who were on their way to town.
There is a mobile crane in front of the church. It looks like it is floating in mid air by some celestial power, but when you look at it large you see the truth.
