Wood Fire Weekend
This weekend was our first wood fire of the semester. The firing lasted about 23 hours. I was there for the first 7, so I made it to bed about 5 this morning. We spent the first 7 hours just candling - warming up the kiln. You have to be extra careful when you have a kiln for of green pots. Glazing on Satruday was interesting, I'm pretty sure everyone lost a few. I learned that the key seems to be spraying everything - no dipping here, it just gets the pot too wet. Aside from the glazing situation which will just take practice, it's nice to be able to skip bisque firing everything. It saves time, energy, and money.
This is a shot of the fire box of our kiln.
