It's lapwing time again!
Everyone seems a soft spot for these birds. They are so distinctive in appearance and call that they are easy to recognise. I went up to the moors today, firstly to get some photos of lichens for a photography class project, but then I went up to look for birds. The best sightings were a snipe calling and drumming and a golden plover, alas both too far away for a decent photo. There were also red grouse, as always, increasing numbers of curlew, lots of meadow pipits, skylarks. I got a brief sighting of one of the water voles, but the oddest sighting of all was a white rabbit - escaped or released, I imagine, but despite this Alice moment, I resisted the temptation to follow it....
