Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at sunset

This was a hard choice, I took so many wonderful pictures on this day...we went south from Nags Head and went all the way to Ocracoke Island. We saw the house from the movie Nights in Rodanthe, saw the shipwreck Oriental just off shore from the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge, rode the ferry to Ocracoke and saw the lighthouse there...but the stand out picture was this one, caught as the last bits of light filtered through the clouds at Hatteras. I was standing where the lighthouse used to be, from where in 1999 it was moved to save it from the ocean, which takes away a little bit more of the beach every day. I can't imagine how it was done, even though I've read about it and have seen video on YouTube...but to see this massive structure and know that it was rolled back inland, what a feat!! And what a day...we were so exhausted by the time we got home...but a wonderful day was had to be sure.
