Harris hawk.
Some days it's hard to find a blip. Some days a harris hawk sits on a bit of fence across from your office in the middle of a city and looks at you while you blip it.
The real picture would have been taking a shot of the people who were wandering by and getting surprised by this majestic chap before whipping out their phones for a quick snap. Sadly my phone didn't do that image justice so i settled for the close up of the bird.
Normally natives of North America, this harris hawk was being used by a handler to frighten seagulls in the city.
They are one of the few birds of prey who are regularly observed in the wild hunting in packs. Intelligent. Another species to do that, amazingly, is the Golden Eagle, which have been observed on occasion to hunt as a pair. Now that would be something to see. Two eagles v one dear. A site to see. But probably not in Renfield Street.
