Ghostly
After sifting through a bunch of photos of one of the most gorgeous and photogenic towns in the entire world (Ouro Preto, Brasil), i decided on this one. I figured that as much as I loved the photos I took, you could google Ouro Preto and find comparable shots. This was taken in an old gold mine about 5-10 km from the town. Originating back to the late 1700s, it was in use until about 1983. Now the mine is mostly open to tourists and those who want to SCUBA dive in its underground lake. Apparently it is super expensive to dive down there though - and I can imagine why! It has so much arsenic in the water that it can't sustain any sort of life - so the water is perfectly still and crystal clear. Absolutely gorgeous. This particular shot was taken from inside the mine as the mine car was coming down to get us. They've been using the same car and pulley system from the late 1800s!! Need I say nerve wrecking! Definitely one of the coolest things I did though (yeah I am easily amused). It was so creepy down there, I loved it. :-)
