School of Navigations
Actually it was for seamen - Stýrimannaskólinn - and this is the old schoolhouse from 1898. In 1957 when I attended this school it was the first and second year in lower secondary school.
We used the old Catholic church for gym and I learned to comb my hair with a wave like Elvis. Our classroom was the one on the first floor where the pedestrian crossing sign is in front of the window.
The only teacher I can remember is the priest because he red The Miserables for us. We were only those two years in this house and then it was used for primary school.
At that time there was a fence around the school and grass - now it's only gravel and used for parking. The big house in the back is the hospital.
In 1971 my older son, 6 years old, started his school attendance in this house and in the same classroom. He skipped the 6th year and started in the 7th. because he was fully literate.
