from where I am today

Stocks

Today my work took me to a farm near Berwick Upon Tweed. I had not been there for quite a while and as "E" was with me, a wander was warranted.

It is a very nice town with the usual charity shops and some good individual local owned ones, in fact I almost bought a tripod I don't really need
(I already have one although not as good).

The blip is of The Berwick Stocks. Not sure if you can enlarge and read the information relating to the stocks it reads:

The original stocks, at some time sited on the South side of the Town Hall, were removed into the Town Hall for safety in 1952 and a replica resited at the Scotsgate. In 1988 these were repaired and resited here. Stocks were in common use from the 14th century as a punishment for petty misdemeanours. In Berwick the first record of the stocks in use was 1604 and they may have been used as late as 1857. The last official record is for 1849 when a woman was imprisoned in them for 4 hours for non-payment of a Court fine for drunkenness. The Berwick stocks could accommodate 3 persons seated on a bench with their feet through the holes, imprisoned by clasps, bars and padlock.
