Muddy Adventures!

Sheep!!!!

Ok so this weather is getting jolly boring. It isn't doing the lambs any good at all. We've been pulling dead ones out of the fields :( lambs that are a good week to ten days old and should be well established.
Shepherd brought me a half dead 10 day old lamb in at breakfast. It had become separated from its mother and got cold and wet. I couldn't get it to feed so stomach tubed it. Then a few hours later tried again. Still not great. It bleated a bit and stood for a while. Then this afternoon it was very poorly. Panting and flemmy. It had what is known as 'wet mouth'. Then it seemed to be fitting.
When I came in after school it was dead. Unfortunately getting them safely through the birth is only the first challenge with sheep. Next and bigger challenge is keeping them alive. I heard an old sheep farmer declare "Sheep are bloody stupid animals, they'd die twice if they could"
Never a truer word spoken!!!

This little chap was far healthier, and god willing will remain that way. That's if it doesn't forget to breath..........
