Red Rose of Lancashire
The railings down by the front at Otterspool were presumably first installed at a time when Liverpool was indeed in Lancashire. Hence they were decorated every metre or so with the Red Rose of Lancashire.
About 3 or 4 years ago, the City Council decided to replace the railings except for the last 100m or so. Now, whilst it is true that the originals were / are looking a bit tatty and that having nice shiny railings all the way along the front into town is probably a good thing, the question has to be asked - why, when you're replacing a 7km stretch of railings, do you leave the last 100m alone?
I'm quite glad they did though.
